Abstract:
This paper highlights several contradictions and challenges raised by the notions of competitiveness and sustainability on regional development. It exposes the principles of neoliberal regionalization and analyzes hindrances to incorporate the principles of sustainability in the free market model. At the same time, it discusses disparities when it comes to apply the neoliberal model in the first and the third world, and advances an alternative model to redistribute territory and manage environmental resources.
