Abstract:

This article aims to review how the methodological relation between ethnography and demography brings new insights on the ways to quantify ethnic populations, based on the analysis of the effects of their numbers in multicultural demographic expressions. I show how the aims about what is to be measured (population, community, territories, villages) and how it is to be measured give room to dispute scenarios, where it is essential to guide the production of new demographies that focus on Colombian ethnic peoples and communities’ sociocultural systems and address them collectively.

Keywords: population, ethnic peoples and communities, numbers, demography(es).
