Abstract:
Building upon the distinction of the various historic times and contexts of the arrival of Afrodescendant populations to the Central American territory, this paper goes over the main topics and authors engaged in the study of those communities. The first section focuses on the history, both at colonial times and the 19th and 20th centuries —during nation-building processes—, of the situation of Afro-Central American people. Then it looks at studies and research on contemporary social, political, cultural processes involving Afrodescendants in Central America. Finally, given its bibliographic relevance in the region, we delve into Garifuna people studies.
Keywords: Afrodescendants, Central America, Garifuna people.
