Abstract:
This document approximates, in a first instance, the discourse theory from Chantal Mouffe and Ernesto Laclau’s perspectives. Based on this, it aims to understand the constructed notion of citizenship. Also considering other categories, such as hegemony and agonistic citizenship, so that we can make evident and visible that in the process of historic-social construction there have been several prevailing forces that are articulated to the economic, social, political and cultural context. It ends by articulating agonistic citizenship to the participation processes as ways through which youth enable their being citizens, while enabling a reading where they are conceived as citizens and promoters of change.
Keywords: citizenship, youth participation, discourse, hegemony, agonistic citizenship.
